It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as Your Mayor for the past eight years and to represent your interests at Aurora Council, York Regional Council, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and Southlake Regional Healthcare Centre.
When I first ran for office, Aurora was in terrible shape. Council was plagued by indecision and infighting. The Mayor was suing residents. Some councillors were suing each other, while others were resigning from the toxic atmosphere. Taxes were high and Town Hall was in a state of lockdown. Aurora, it seemed, was closed for business.
When I was elected, I changed all that.
Aurora has benefited from growth both financially and culturally. Over the past few years, our community has welcomed newcomers from many diverse cultures and traditions, and together we have flourished and furthered Aurora’s legacy of inclusiveness.
We reached and maintained this status through strategic long-term planning that balanced growth with the need to maintain the small town charm that attracted families to our municipality.
As Your Mayor, I intend to maintain this balance as we re-evaluate our growth and our needs as a community. I believe in an Aurora where all residents are treated with respect, where our streets are safe and where everyone has the opportunity to prosper. If you share my vision for Aurora and support passionate, proven leadership.
